9248PRO-CHR
- Two carb progressive linkage for 4-cyl Ford flathead engines
- Show chrome/polished stainless steel finish
- 5 inches and 5-3/16 inches from carb to carb
- Extended throttle shafts not required
- Fits 4-cylinder Equalizer and Riley Two Port 2x2 intakes (5in)
- Fits most 2x2 adapters designed for 4bbl carb intakes (5-3/16in)
- Fits Vern Tardell Slingshot 2x2 adapter (5-3/16in)
- Do NOT use with banjo fittings
This linkage is sized for use with intake manifolds and manifold adapters that space the carburetors 5 to 5-3/16in apart, including most '2x2 into 4-bbl' adapters,
and the Vern Tardell Slingshot 2x2.
It can also be used for early Ford 4-banger (Model A/B engines) 2x2 intakes, which place the carburetors 5 inches part. See above for typical manifold applications.
4-banger specialist Charlie Yapp tells us, "Ford Model A and B type engines are mounted in the frame at 4 degrees tilt to the rear so the manifolds have a 4 degree
angled mount to keep the carburetors level. The "Equalizer" and "Riley Two Port" dual intake manifolds feature a mixing plenum so the customer can set it up with
two functioning carbs linked directly or with a progressive linkage. It will also work quite well, on the street, with one dummy carb at the rear and the functioning
carb forward. Why? The reason goes back to the 4 degree tilt. If any raw fuel finds its way into the manifold it will run backwards, giving the liquid fuel more time
to be evaporated before it goes into the rear Siamese ports. Of course . . . the raw fuel would degrade the performance and cause a rich situation. If the carbs
are set up and jetted correctly there would be no liquid fuel."
Designed and manufactured exclusively by Stromberg Carburetor, the TwoStep linkage range combines clean, traditional looks with maximum leverage
and huge versatility. Each kit comes pre-assembled and installs in just two simple steps, without the need for extended throttle shafts. Our kits are not
a ‘one size fits all’ solution. Different intakes use different carb spacing, so we modelled every kit in 3D CAD and offer different kits for specific intakes.
If you’re in doubt, simply measure your manifold spacing – throttle shaft to throttle shaft.
Check out the following features:
- Die-cast zinc SuperLink lever arms. All other parts stainless steel.
- Every kit comes with new Stromberg ‘Snapback’ throttle return springs, which wrap around the end of the throttle shaft. These chemically blacked,
- stainless steel torsion springs snap the carburetors shut, yet virtually disappear from view.
- TwoStep progressive systems are designed to ensure optimum performance and maximum versatility. The long primary lever has three mounting
- points so you can change when the secondary carburetor opens, and you can pull the front carburetor or push the rear one open to suit
- individual applications. On the top setting (as supplied), the linkage will start to open the secondary carburetor at around 50% throttle.
- holes will open the secondary carburetor sooner.
- To improve leverage, the primary (center) arm was kept as long as possible without hitting the carburetor S-jet. It also has a bigger clamping
- screw to handle more linkage torque. The sliding progressive rod meets the secondary carb rod at the top of the lever arm - not part way down
- like some systems. Effective leverage is especially important as 97 multi-carb systems have strong spring resistance.
- The neat tapered rod stops are fully adjustable, with discreet set screw fixings.
- WARNING! To use this linkage with banjo fuel fittings (eg. Stromberg 9082K and 9083K), you must add our 9086K banjo fitting spacers.
- Without them, the banjo and its fuel hose will interfere with the long primary lever arm causing linkage binding or sticking,
- which could result in uncontrolled engine speed, property damage, serious personal injury or death. Always read the instructions
- before installation.
